Julian Edelman Used To Emulate Tom Brady In Eighth Grade

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- It's no secret how much love and respect Patriots receiver Julian Edelman has for quarterback Tom Brady. But No. 11 revealed that his admiration for No. 12 goes back much further than his NFL career.

Edelman did an interview with Augustman, billed as "The Definitive Men's Network," and commented on what "becoming a Bostonian" means to him. He dropped a nice little anecdote about himself that, if true, may blow your mind.

"I remember being in eighth grade and pretending to be Tom Brady at recess and now I am teammates and friends with Tom Brady," he said. "We held up the Vince Lombardi trophy together. So yea, playing for the New England Patriots has been my greatest achievement. It has been the highlight of my life no doubt."

Here are some highlights of Edelman playing for Woodside High School:

Edelman's story is a testament to Brady's longevity in the league and the duo's staying power as teammates. Though Brady didn't become the Patriots' starting quarterback until Edelman's freshman year of high school in 2001-02, Brady and Edelman grew up eight miles apart in San Mateo and Redwood City, Calif., respectively, so it's quite possible that Edelman knew who Brady was from his time at Michigan.
