BOSTON (CBS) -- Steven Wright's incredible journey from minor-league journeyman to Cy Young contender culminated Tuesday with his selection to the American League squad for next Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game. With the league's second-best ERA, Wright even has a chance to start in the Midsummer Classic.
In a column for The Players Tribune, Wright attributed much of the success he's had with his knuckleball to the tutelage of former Red Sox knuckler Tim Wakefield. Much like 2012 NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey, Wright has dominated in 2016 by mostly throwing a mid-70s knuckleball that at times has made hitters look silly.
It's hard to hit a knuckleball anyway; it's that much harder when even the catcher is having trouble tracking its movement. Wright has made hitters' knees buckle and bats to flail at the wind at an unbelievable rate in 2016, so it's only proper to honor one of baseball's most dominant pitches of the season with some GIFs.
