6 Red Sox Selected To AL All-Star Team

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox were already expected to be heavily represented on the starting rosters for the American League in the 2016 All-Star Game. Now, it's official: David Ortiz, Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Mookie Betts all received the most votes at their positions to earn starting nods in the Midsummer Classic, which happens Tuesday, July 12 in San Diego.

Pitchers Craig Kimbrel and Steven Wright were also named to the AL All-Star team.

Playing in his final season, Ortiz earned his tenth All-Star Game appearance. "This is my last year playing," Ortiz said. "I think it could turn out to be something really special."

Bogaerts, Betts, Bradley and Wright all earned their first nods. Kimbrel was selected to his fifth All-Star team and first as a representative of the AL.

"I'm pretty excited. More so that we have a lot of teammates going with us, a lot of young guys mixed in there with David [Ortiz] going out on his last year," Bogaerts said.

Dustin Pedroia could become the seventh member of the Red Sox to make the team if he wins the "Final Vote." Voting ends Friday, July 8.
