Robbie Ross Jr. Catches Brock Holt's Home Run After Bounce On Top Of Wall

BOSTON (CBS) -- Days and nights out in the bullpen can be long, but Red Sox pitcher Robbie Ross Jr. has managed to keep himself and his fellow relievers entertained this season by serving as the de facto "Home Run Catching Guy."

The official title may need some work, but the rules seem clear: Ross tries to catch every home run hit in his zip code, but he's not allowed to use his glove. Whether it's a towel or a hat, Ross has proven to be a pretty impressive fourth outfielder throughout the year.

And on Monday afternoon, in the Red Sox' Independence Day matinee, Ross pulled off what may have been his most impressive catch yet.

With the Sox trailing 4-3 in the third inning against Texas, Ross watched as Brock Holt cleaned out an inside breaking ball and launched a high and deep drive to the right-center field gap. Ross got into position in case the ball carried, and it did -- just enough. Or, more accurately, exactly enough.

The ball ended up bouncing off the top of the wall and up into the bullpen. And Ross was there to make the catch with his special edition Stars & Stripes hat.

It's going to be difficult for Ross to top that one.
