Red Sox Activate Brock Holt From Disabled List

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox' bench is getting a big boost ahead of the holiday weekend.

Super utility man Brock Holt has been activated off the 15-day disabled list after missing 36 games with a concussion.

Holt suffered the concussion back on May 18, and did not start a rehab assignment with the Pawtucket Red Sox until June 20. He played eight games for the PawSox, going 8-for-25 (.320) at the plate with two runs, two doubles, five walks, and a .433 on-base percentage. Defensively, Holt spent six of those games in left field while making a pair of appearances at shortstop.

The 28-year-old lefty hit .239 with four doubles, three home runs, 19 RBI, and 17 runs scored over 35 games with Boston this season, appearing defensively at left field (31 games), third base (four games), shortstop (four games), and second base (three games).

With outfielders Chris Young and Blake Swihart both on the disabled list, Holt's return is a welcome sight for the Boston depth chart. He'll likely split time with Bryce Brentz, who has started the last six games for Boston, in left field.

To make room on the 25-man roster, Boston optioned infielder Mike Miller back to Pawtucket.
