David Backes On Felger & Mazz: Bruins An 'Absolutely Perfect' Fit

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins made one of the first major signings of NHL free agency with David Backes. The former St. Louis Blues center and captain joined Jim Murray and Greg Dickerson, filling in for Felger & Mazz, to talk about his new team, which he called an "absolutely perfect" fit for him as a player and for what he desired from a financial standpoint.

Backes' playing style certainly fits the Bruins mold and will be a good player for Claude Julien's system.

"I'm a guy that likes to crash & bang and play against other teams' top guys and maybe intimidate a bit and keep guys on their toes," said Backes. "My game and the Bruins' game and how they have success ... it all just seems to fit cohesively."

Another quality that the Bruins have seemed to lack in recent years is vocal leadership in the locker room, which Torey Krug alluded to in his interview with Adam Jones and Rich Keefe. Backes commented on how he plans to lead the Bruins and hold his teammates accountable.

"If we're not all sacrificing our personal successes for the benefit of the team, we're not going to have the great success that we can have as a group," Backes said. "That ideology carried through from the management to the coaching staff to the guys that I talked with and that really made me very comfortable with this decision."

Backes also commented on how he plans to fit into the Bruins' line combinations and his extensive charity work with "rescue dogs." Listen to the full podcast below:
