Crew Prepares Barge For Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular

BOSTON (CBS) - When people are "ooh-ing" an "ahh-ing" during the fireworks Monday night, they probably won't give much thought to who's putting on the show.

On Friday, WBZ's David Robichaud took a boat ride on the Charles out to the barge where most of the fireworks will blast off from during the 4th of July in Boston.

The Grucci family of New York is once again handling the pyrotechnics. We met Lauren Grucci, the 6th generation of her family to join the business.

Lauren was packing pyrotechnics into the mortars that will launch the fireworks into the sky. She told us she loves her profession because she gets to travel the world and make people happy.

The man who's running the show is from Cape Cod. Ian Mackenzie was born and raised in Brewster. He told us he was inspired as a kid by watching the fireworks displays during the Pops concerts conducted by the great Arthur Fiedler.
