Felger & Mazz: 'Someone's Getting Fired This Week' If Red Sox Don't Improve

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox got off to a good start in April and May, but have plummeted back to Earth and beyond with a 9-15 record in June. The pitching staff has shown no signs of improving and frustration is building over manager John Farrell.

Questions have surrounded the team, Farrell, his coaching staff, and Red Sox pitchers for most of the 2016 season, but the problems appear to be coming to a head in the wake of the extreme struggles by Eduardo Rodriguez, a perceived lack of leadership on the pitching staff, and mismanagement in the clubhouse. The fact that the struggles not only continued but seemed to get worse against the lowly Rays has made the team's issues all the more concerning.

Felger & Mazz opened Tuesday's program questioning the fortitude of the pitchers and leadership among management. There's no real indication that Farrell or anyone else could be in jeopardy of losing his job, but Tony Massarotti believes a major change could be imminent if the Red Sox don't turn things around, and do it quickly.

"Someone's getting fired this week, as far as I'm concerned." said Massarotti. "If I'm [John Henry or Dave Dombrowski] and this doesn't change dramatically in the next 48 hours, someone's losing a job on Thursday." The Red Sox have an off day on Thursday after the conclusion of the Red Sox' three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg.
