Guns Collected During Buy-Back Program To Be Destroyed

GREENFIELD (AP) — More than 270 guns collected during the Valley Gun Buy Back program this month will be destroyed at a recycling center.

Representatives from the Northwestern district attorney's office, the Greenfield and Northampton Police Departments and other city officials will be on hand Wednesday at WTE Recycling in Greenfield to watch the guns being destroyed.

The program on June 11 allowed gun owners in Greenfield and Northampton to trade in guns for $50 gift cards.

Among the guns collected were a 9-millimeter semi-automatic, a .38 Special, long guns, pistols, rifles and shotguns.

A Japanese rifle was accepted by the Springfield Armory Museum for display because of its historic significance.
