Wednesday's Child: 13-Year-Old Emily

Emily is a shy, yet funny thirteen-year-old young lady of Caucasian descent. Emily likes to watch movies and play on her iPad. Emily loves animals and has recently grown a liking towards the therapy dog her clinician uses in their sessions. She also enjoys taking dance classes and hopes to one day take gymnastics lessons as well. Emily is a "people pleaser" and does her best to impress! She can be fearful at times to try new situations and go to new places because she likes consistency and knowing what to expect. Emily can build a trusting relationship with trust and patience.

Emily can struggle academically but she is a hard worker. She has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for academic needs. Emotionally, Emily can sometimes test people's commitment to her. However she is aware of her own history, triggers and feelings.

Emily would do well in a home with a single mom, two moms or with a mother/father configuration. Emily has voiced she would like an English speaking family, preferably Caucasian. Emily has also voiced she is not open to busy families who go on a lot of trips, have parties, etc. Emily is legally freed for adoption and will need to maintain contact with her two adult sisters.

Since its inception in 1981, Wednesday's Child has been a collaboration of the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), the Department of Children & Families and WBZ-TV/CBS Boston. Hosted by Jack Williams for the last 34 years, this weekly series has given a face and voice to the children who wait the longest for families. Wednesday's Child has helped find homes for hundreds of waiting children and continues to raise awareness about adoption from foster care.
