Driver Charged In Sharon Road Rage Beating Held On $20,000 Bail

SHARON (CBS) – A driver charged in a road rage beating in Sharon was ordered held on $20,000 bail Monday and told to stay away from his accuser.

Alexander Nguyen, 21, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on several charges in Sharon District Court.

Police say Nguyen beat and threatened to kill a father in front of the man's two children during a confrontation on June 12.

The father, who only identified himself as Michael, told WBZ-TV Nguyen punched him more than 20 times, knocking him out.  Michael claims Nguyen was upset with him because he was driving too slow.

Outside court Monday, his attorney, David Jellinek, told reporters this was simply a fight between two men.

"It certainly wasn't a one-way attack.  I'm not going to get into what my client says or didn't say about what happened.  But, according to the witness, it was not simply an attack," he told WBZ.

According to the police report, that witness claimed Michael went up to Nguyen's car with his hands over his head. He said Nguyen punched Michael repeatedly, Michael tried to fight back, but was knocked unconscious.

Nguyen was taken into custody six days after the incident at the Sharon Police station.

He is due in Stoughton District Court July 22 for a pre-trial hearing.
