Report: Bruins Highly Interested In Trading For Kevin Shattenkirk
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins desperately need young defensemen. The St. Louis Blues can't afford to keep one of their better defensemen.
It's a scenario that could lead to a deal, which is something the Bruins are reportedly very interested in pursuing.
Kevin Shattenkirk, 27, has six years of NHL experience under his belt. He's coming off a season in which he set a career high in goals (14), and one in which he tallied a total of 44 points. In each of the last four full seasons (excluding the lockout-shortened season), he's recorded at least 43 points -- and that includes a 44-point total two seasons ago, when he played just 56 games.
Shattenkirk played at Boston University for three seasons from 2007-8 through 2009-10, assisting on the game-winning goal in the national championship game in 2009.
Of course, the steep price tag on Shattenkirk could prove prohibitive to the Bruins, who own two first-round picks, one second-rounder and zero third- and fourth-round picks in the upcoming draft.
UPDATE: Dreger said on TSN 1050 that the Bruins offered a first-round draft pick for Shattenkirk.
