Framingham Native Played Dead To Survive Orlando Shooting Rampage

BOSTON (CBS) -- A Framingham native wounded in the Orlando massacre described his horrific ordeal inside the nightclub Tuesday.

Angel Colon was shot multiple times and told reporters at Orlando Regional Medical Center he played dead to avoid drawing the gunman's attention.

Colon said he was leaving the nightclub when the shots rang out.

"We stop what we're doing and it just keeps going," he said. Colon was shot in the leg.

"He's shooting everyone who is already dead on the floor, making sure they're already dead," Colon said. "I look over and he shoots the girl next to me. I'm just there, laying down, and I'm thinking, 'I'm next, I'm dead.'"

"I don't know how, but by the glory of God he shoots toward my head but it hits my hand and then he shoots me again and hits the side of my hip. I had no reaction, I was just prepared to stay there, laying down, so he wouldn't know that I'm alive," Colon said.

Colon thanked the hospital staff for saving his life.

"If it wasn't for you guys, I definitely would not be here," he said.

Colon is one of four rampage victims from Massachusetts.

Back in Massachusetts, the Framingham native's family watched their nephew relive his nightmare, dumbfounded.

"That's a miracle that he's alive," said Bienvenido Nieves, Colon's uncle. "I feel sorry for the families that lost their loved ones."

A vigil was held in Framingham Tuesday night to pray for all the victims involved in the tragedy.

GoFundMe page has been set up to help Colon in his recovery.
