Trump Focuses On Terrorism, Immigration Laws During NH Speech

MANCHESTER, NH (CBS/AP) – The attack in Orlando is affecting the presidential campaign. Republican Donald Trump focused on terrorism and immigration laws during a speech in New Hampshire on Monday.

"If we don't get tough and if we don't get smart and fast, we're not going to have our country anymore," Trump said. "There will be nothing, absolutely nothing left."

During the speech at The New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, Trump said he will focus on toughening immigration laws if elected president.

"The immigration laws of the United States give the president the power to suspend entry into the country of any class of persons as he or she deems appropriate, hopefully it's he in this case," Trump said. "I refuse to allow America to become a place where gay people, Christian people, Jewish people, are targets of persecution and intimidation by radical Islamic preachers of hate and violence."

Democrat Hillary Clinton blamed American partners in the Middle East — Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar — for not stopping terror funding emanating from their countries and called for tougher gun control legislation in the U.S., including outlawing assault weapons like one used by the Orlando shooter.

"I believe weapons of war have no place on our streets," Clinton said during a speech in Cleveland. Though she drew implicit contrasts with Trump, she never mentioned him by name, saying "Today is not a day for politics."
