The International Association of Firefighters requested two of Boston’s certified Peer Support Firefighter Counselors to join a team whose mission is to talk with firefighters who responded to the gruesome scene.

Omar Mateen gunned down 49 people inside the Orlando gay club and injured at 50 others before he was killed by police.

The Boston Fire Department counselors left Monday morning for Orlando, and will begin working with other firefighters later in the day.

Two Massachusetts natives were among those killed in what President Obama called an act of “homegrown extremism.”
