Donald Trump Reportedly Could Ask Tom Brady To Speak At Republican Convention

BOSTON (CBS) – The Republican National Convention is rapidly approaching. And if Donald Trump, the party's presumptive nominee, gets his wish he may ask a certain Patriots quarterback to join him in Cleveland.

The New York Times reported that during a Friday rally in Virginia, Trump told supporters that he wants the convention proceedings to be "a little different" this time around.

Trump said he is "thinking about getting some of the great sports people who like me a lot" to speak to the convention.

Brady was among the sports figures Trump went on to list who have been in his corner during his campaign.

Last September, a "Make America Great Again" hat was spotted in Brady's locker at Gillette Stadium.

The quarterback wouldn't go as far as endorsing Trump, saying it was a "nice keepsake" that was sent to him. Brady added it would "be great" if Trump were president because "there'd be a putting green on the White House lawn, I'm sure of that."

Though Brady has kept his political views private for the most part, he told 60 Minutes in 2007 that he is an independent.

Brady and Trump's friendship goes back several years.

When Brady's 4-game DeflateGate suspension was reinstated, Trump urged the NFL to "leave Tom Brady alone."

The Republican National Convention is scheduled for July 18-21 in Cleveland.
