Red Sox Draft Torey Lovullo's Son On Last Day Of MLB Draft
BOSTON (CBS) -- On the last day of the MLB Draft, the Boston Red Sox drafted 30 players including Bench Coach Torey Lovullo's son.
The team made the announcement in a news statement released Saturday night following rounds 11 through 40 of the draft.
In the 20th round, the Sox selected 22-year-old shortstop Nick Lovullo, who was actually drafted by the team in last year's draft but he decided to return to Worcester's College of the Holy Cross to play his senior year. He led the team in runs scored (42) and walks (40), while also compiling a .363 on-base percentage in 56 games.
With their 36th-round pick, Boston drafted Jordan Wren, who is the son of Red Sox Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations Frank Wren. He hit .285 in 55 games for Georgia Southern University as a junior.
The Sox also selected Boston College junior Nick Sciortino, who threw out 19 of 34 base runners who tried to steal on him.
Over the three days of the draft, Boston drafted 18 pitchers (14 right-handers, four left-handers), 10 infielders, nine outfielders, and three catchers, according to the statement.
Of the 40 players drafted, 16 are from high school and 24 are from college, the statement adds.
