Report: Patriots' Michael Williams Tears ACL, 'Likely' To Be Placed On IR
BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots tight end Michael Williams reportedly tore his left ACL during Wednesday's practice at mandatory minicamp.
A team source confirmed the injury to the Boston Globe's Jim McBride and said that the tight end "likely will be placed on injured reserve."
ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that Williams is seeking a second opinion on his injured knee, but a source told him, "It's not looking good."
The Patriots could theoretically activate Williams from IR if he is fully recovered around the start of the playoffs, but an ACL tear is likely to sideline him for the entire 2016 season.
Williams played 15 games for the Patriots in 2015, starting nine and catching three passes on six targets. Primarily a blocking tight end, Williams played the second-most snaps of all Patriots tight ends.
