Driver Who Hit State Trooper In Revere Beach Crash Remains Hospitalized

REVERE (CBS) – A Lynn man facing a laundry list of charges remains hospitalized after crashing into a Massachusetts State Police trooper over the weekend at Revere Beach.

Danilo DiRoche was arrested Saturday around 5:30 p.m. after he struck a trooper while driving his motorcycle around 60 MPH in a 30 MPH zone.

After the initial crash, DiRoche's motorcycle hit a parked car. He then allegedly tried to run from police before being arrested a short time later.

DiRoche was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, but his appearance was postponed as he remains hospitalized.

Though DiRoche initially declined medical treatment at the scene, he was brought to an area hospital and x-rays showed he suffered a fractured lower back.

The Lynn man faces multiple charges, including drunk driving, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest.

According to court documents, DiRoche told officers on scene that he ran because he "was scared and did not want to get arrested."

Police also say DiRoche told them he had four beers several hours before the crash and "knew he shouldn't have been driving that fast but was 'cruising to blow off steam.'"

The trooper's report indicates that DiRoche had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech.

"Man I (f-----) up. I should have just stayed home," DiRoche told police, according to court documents.

The trooper who was hit by DiRoche's motorcycle was released from the hospital on Sunday.

DiRoche is expected to be arraigned from his hospital room at Beth Israel Medical Deaconess, though it is not yet clear when.
