Body Recovered From Halifax Lake Identified As Missing Kayaker

HALIFAX (CBS) -- Police recovered the body of a kayaker who never resurfaced after his canoe overturned in Silver Lake Friday.

The Mass. State Police recovered the body early Sunday afternoon, two days after the kayaker went missing, using side-scan sonar.

The District Attorney's office identified him as 26-year-old Shi Hu, of Boston.

Friends said knew how to swim but that he was not wearing a flotation device.

At least 28 divers from 11 different communities search the lake for hours before calling the search off Friday, and the search for the kayaker continued Saturday. Dive teams searched through 40 feet of water, though visibility became difficult after 30 feet.

Late Friday afternoon, police taped off a black car they believe belongs to the missing man.
