Letter Written By JFK To Purported Mistress Is For Sale

BOSTON (AP) — An intimate letter written by John F. Kennedy to a purported mistress seeking to set up a liaison is one of several Kennedy-related items being sold at auction.

The four-page letter to Mary Pinchot Meyer was written about a month before his assassination. It's signed simply "J."

It reads in part: "Why don't you leave suburbia for once — come and see me — either here — or at the Cape next week or in Boston the 19th." It goes on to say that such a meeting is "unwise" and "irrational."

The online sale is being held by Boston-based RR Auction starting June 16.

RR officials say the letter wasn't sent.

It is being sold by a collector.

RR Executive Vice President Robert Livingston expects it to fetch about $30,000.
