Wife Of Slain Auburn Police Officer Thanks Community For 'Uplifting' Support

CHARLTON (CBS) – The wife of slain Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarentino called the support from around the country "uplifting" in the aftermath of her husband's line of duty death.

Tricia Tarentino spoke Friday morning before the funeral for Officer Tarentino, who was shot and killed Sunday during a traffic stop.

Ronald and Tricia Tarentino had been married for nearly 20 years. They have three children.

In the aftermath of her husband's death, Tricia said she has received "overwhelming generosity and considerate words."

Tricia also thanked the first responders and doctors who tried to save his life.

"Ron would be so touched to see how much he was loved," Tricia said. "Thank you everyone locally and from across the country from the bottom of our hearts."

The widow also said she is praying for a speedy recovery for the Massachusetts State Police trooper who was injured during an exchange of gunfire with Jorge Zambrano, who police say killed Tarentino. Zambrano was shot and killed by police.

Tricia Tarentino said community members of all ages have touched her family with what she called an "outpouring of support."

"It's amazing to see how many lives he has touched and how each of you has shown and expressed your love for him," she said. "We will never forget the passion that has been shown from the children from so many communities."
