Red Sox Fall To Blue Jays

TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson hit two home runs and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox 7-5 on Friday night at SkyDome for their third consecutive win.

Donaldson also had a double, single and four RBIs to lead the Blue Jays (25-25). His two-run homer in the eighth put the Jays back in front after they squandered a 5-2 lead.

The Blue Jays now trail the American League East-leading Red Sox (29-19) by five games.

Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez left the game after 6 2/3 innings with Toronto leading 5-4. He gave up a single in the seventh inning to Red Sox catcher Christian Vasquez, who knocked in two runs.

Shortly after the two Red Sox runners crossed home plate, a spectator ran on to the playing field dressed only in underwear and made it all the way from the third base line to right field before he was corralled.

Sanchez settled down and got an out before he was replaced by reliever Joe Biagini, who got right fielder Moots Betts to line out to center to end the inning.

Sanchez threw 103 pitches and was charged with two earned runs.

The Red Sox tied the score in the eighth with a run-scoring single by first baseman Travis Shaw, but Donaldson answered in the bottom of the inning with his second homer.

Biagini (2-1) was the winner and Roberto Osuna picked up the save. Reliever Junich Tazawa (2-2) took the loss for the Red Sox.

The Jays chased Red Sox starter Joe Kelly with two outs in the fifth inning after taking a 5-2 lead. Reliever Matt Barnes came on to get the final out in the inning.

The Jays touched Kelly for nine hits and left eight on base.

Donaldson opened the scoring in the first inning, hitting a home run off Kelly.

The Red Sox tied the score in the second when Travis Shaw scored an unearned run on a groundout by Jackie Bradley Jr. Shaw reached second on a two-base error when a wild throw by Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki pulled first baseman Justin Smoak off the bag. Tulowitzki was charged with an error.

The Jays looked to have a chance to break the tie later that inning when Russell Martin and Devon Travis hit back-to-back singles with two outs. But Kevin Pillar ended the rally when he struck out.

Donaldson put the Jays up 2-1 when he doubled in the third to drive in Ezequiel Carrera, who led off with a single.

The Red Sox got three consecutive hits off Sanchez in the fourth to tie the score 2-2 but wasted a chance to take the lead when Marco Hernandez lined into a double play with the bases loaded.

Donaldson made a great play to stab the ball before it hit the ground and quickly threw to second to get the double play and end the Red Sox's rally.
