MBTA Bans Hoverboards On Property

BOSTON (CBS) -- Hoverboard are no longer allowed on any of the MBTA's properties including stations, buses, subways, trains, and commuter boats, the agency announced Tuesday.

The MBTA based its decision on an assessment of the devices after a string of recent injuries, fires and explosions associated with hoverboards across the nation. Other transit systems in New York, California, and Chicago have also restricted customers from boarding their systems with hoverboards.

The agency will post signs in stations and vehicles to notify the public about the ban in the coming weeks.

The MBTA says there are no exceptions.
