Man Who Tried Jumping From Second-Story Fitchburg Porch To Evade Police Arrested
FITCHBURG (CBS/AP) -- A man wanted by police for about three years was arrested following a fall from a second-story porch he tried jumping from to evade officers Wednesday morning in Fitchburg.
The Sentinel & Enterprise reports Thomas Martin, 38, was wanted on federal drug charges.
The incident was posted to the Massachusetts State Police Facebook page.
The US Marshals Service was helped by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section to find the man. After receiving information that he might be staying on Wallace Street, police investigated the area.
When investigators knocked at the apartment, they heard noise inside but no one answered. Moments later, the man went out a second-floor window onto the porch and when police approached him, he allegedly lept from it to try and escape.
A trooper managed to grab the man's sweatpants and held on until other officers could assist him, but he eventually fell to the ground and was taken into custody.
Martin was taken to the Leominster barracks for booking and then for arraignment at the U.S. District Court in Worcester.
It's unclear whether Martin has a lawyer who could comment on the charge.
