Coyote Attacks Small Dog In Milton

MILTON (CBS) -- Milton police are asking residents to keep their dogs leashed after a small dog was attacked by a coyote early Saturday morning.

The off-leash dog, which may have chased the female coyote, was bitten in the eastern part of town around 4 a.m., according to the Milton Police Facebook account. The extent of the dog's injuries are currently unknown.

The town's animal control officer is working with wildlife officials on the investigation.

Police say this is the time of year when female coyotes give birth and are protective of their pups.

There is no threat to the public, investigators say.
