Police: Man Showers, Drinks Beers After Breaking Into Apartments

BERWICK, Maine (CBS) – Police say a New Hampshire man made himself at home after breaking into two Maine apartments where he showered, ate food, and drank beers once inside.

Todd LeGrand of Dover, N.H. was arrested Thursday afternoon after a foot chase with Berwick Police.

The chase came after a woman came home and found that several horses at a barn adjacent to her property were roaming free.

When the woman walked into her apartment, she allegedly found LeGrand inside. She ran from the apartment and called police.

LeGrand suffered minor injuries to his feet after running through bushes without shoes while trying to evade police.

According to Berwick Police, LeGrand spent several hours inside the apartments, helping himself to food and beer,  before showering and releasing horses from the barn.

LeGrand also allegedly stole money and other items from the apartments.

Police say LeGrand was previously arrested Monday on an outstanding warrant. When he was released on Wednesday, LeGrand took a cab from Sanford to North Berwick.

After the cab ride, he was arrested and charged with theft of services for not paying the driver.

Following that arrest, LeGrand walked towards Berwick and allegedly broke into the two apartments before he was arrested again.

Berwick Police charged LeGrand with several counts of burglary, theft, and violation of conditions of release.
