Keller @ Large: This Photo Is Worth One Word

BOSTON (CBS) - You know the old saying - sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

And that's certainly true of this photo, taken by a passerby of a well-dressed man sitting on the back of a State Police cruiser having lunch with a female panhandler.

It turns out the man is State Trooper Luke Bonin, fresh from an appearance in court, who apparently spotted the woman by the side of the road holding a sign asking for help. According to State Police, the trooper drove on to a local restaurant and returned with two meals.

When he pulled up, the woman thought he was there to evict her from the spot. Instead of kicking her out, he shared lunch with her.

The trooper declined to comment further on this episode, and was reportedly reluctant to have it publicized at all. But we should be glad it was.

Look at the message conveyed by this photograph.

We see two symbols of power, a man in a business suit and a police car, and an image of powerlessness, the women down on her luck sitting in the weeds. But in this moment, they're just two people, sharing a meal and some conversation.

Of course, we are left wanting to know more.

What is the woman's story? What sort of help does she need? Was the trooper able to steer her towards that help? Maybe we'll find out.

But for now, the picture speaks for itself - one citizen, helping another, without expectation of any reward beyond the good feeling that comes from doing the right thing. In this case, a picture says one word - love.
