Mass. State Trooper Suspended With Pay After Violent Arrest Of Driver
BOSTON (CBS) – A Massachusetts State Police trooper who was involved in a violent arrest following a police chase through Massachusetts and New Hampshire has officially been suspended with pay pending an investigation.
Richard Simone was arrested in Nashua, N.H. after a high-speed chase that began in Holden.
Simone is seen on video being punched by multiple officers, despite apparently following police commands and going to the ground.
State Police only identified the trooper as a 32-year-old who has been a member of the department since 2011. The trooper is assigned to the Andover Barracks.
Sources told WBZ-TV that the suspended Massachusetts State Police Trooper is Joseph Flynn.
A status hearing took place Friday afternoon in Framingham.
The hearing was not part of the investigation, but instead a procedural step to determine the trooper's duty status, State Police said.
On Thursday, New Hampshire State Police said one of their officers was placed on leave without pay. The New Hampshire Attorney General has also opened a criminal investigation.
