Woman Pushing Stroller Attacked Near Elementary School In Dorchester

DORCHESTER (CBS) --  A woman is in stable condition after she being attacked near Trotter Charter School in Dorchester early Thursday morning.

Police say the 25-year-old was walking her 7 year old daughter to school and pushing an infant in a stroller around 7a.m. on Thursday when a man approached her.

"He hit her with a blunt object," Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said. "We're not sure what she got hit with."

Community members are on edge after seeing the police tape and hearing about the incident.

"These are little kids and they shouldn't be seeing this and its sad," said Ivy Tutt, a young mother of two.

Commissioner Evans says the attack doesn't seem like a robbery since the woman's purse was in the stroller.

Detectives questioned the woman's daughter inside the school.

"I can only imagine seeing your mother hit like that, what it does to the child," Evans said.

The woman was rushed to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but is now expected to survive.

The incident remains under investigation. No suspect has been named.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call Boston Police.

"The community has to step up and get who's responsible for this," Evans said.
