New England Revolution Acquire Kei Kamara From Columbus Crew

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Revolution have acquired forward Kei Kamara from the Columbus Crew, the team announced on Thursday.

Kamara, in his 10th MLS season, made nine starts for Columbus in 2016, posting five goals in 790 minutes played. In return, Columbus receives a heap of cash in the form of general allocation money (reportedly a record amount) and targeted allocation money, New England's highest first-round pick in 2017, their highest second-round pick in 2018 and one of New England's international roster spots for the 2016 season.

The 6-foot-3 Kamara has made 234 appearances throughout his career (including 187 starts) while tallying 79 goals -- the second most among active MLS players. He's looking to build off his best season in the league in 2015, when he tied the league-lead with 22 goals to go with eight helpers.

"We have been looking to strengthen our team and we feel that this addition accomplishes just that," Revolution General Manger Michael Burns said in a release. "Kei is a player who has had success and is a proven goal scorer in MLS. We're pleased we were able to get this deal done and look forward to Kei's arrival and integration into the team."

The Revolution are in action Saturday night, when they host the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium.

Tune in to Revolution-Fire on 98.5 The Sports Hub -- the flagship station of the New England Revolution. Coverage begins at 7:30 p.m., with a full postgame show following the match.
