Rockland Boy Gets Stolen Bike Back, Mom Overwhelmed By Kindness

ROCKLAND (CBS) -- Dylan Doyle was heartbroken when his red, three-wheeled bike was stolen earlier this week--but now, thanks to the Rockland Police Department, Dylan is riding that bike again.

The bike was stolen on Tuesday. Dylan's mom, Jeanne, posted the news on social media, and then went to report it to police. That social media post went viral, and on Thursday night, Jeanne got the call that the bike had been located at a local pawn shop.

Jeanne told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karen Twomey that Dylan could hardly contain himself after the two went to pick it up at the police station.

"He was so excited that, in the pouring rain, he rode it home, smile as big as can be on his face," said Jeanne.

Jeanne said that, for Dylan, who has developmental disabilities, the bike is his way of connecting to and being like all the other kids. Jeanne said her son got the bike for his birthday last year, and immediately fell in love with it.

"It's his freedom to go play with the kids," Jeanne said. "He rides up and down the street waving at everybody, he's on cloud nine."

She said the other kids were very happy for Dylan--and that she was grateful for the kindness shown by everyone this week.

"When he was riding down the street and the kids saw him outside, they all ran outside and said 'Dylan got his bike back, yay!' It was awesome," said Jeanne. "I can't believe the kindness, the kindness that comes around."
