Red Sox Send Henry Owens To Triple-A Pawtucket, Call Up Sean O'Sullivan
BOSTON (CBS) -- After failing to record an out in the fourth inning on Thursday night, left-hander Henry Owens was sent to Triple-A on Friday.
The Red Sox announced Friday that right-handed pitcher Sean O'Sullivan has been called up to the major league roster, with Owens being sent to Pawtucket.
The news likely means that if all goes according to schedule, Eduardo Rodriguez will be taking Owens' spot in the rotation.
The team also announced that third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who underwent shoulder surgery this week, was moved to the 60-day disabled list. He's expected to miss the rest of the season.
For the 28-year-old O'Sullivan, it's his first call-up to the Red Sox. He's made five starts at Pawtucket this year, going 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA while striking out 32 and walking just five. In his career, he's made 66 major league appearances (52 starts) for the Angels, Royals, Padres and Phillies. He owns a career 11-23 record and 5.95 ERA.
Owens was lifted from Thursday's start after allowing two runs in three innings, an outing in which he issued six walks and a home run.
