Michael LeBlanc, 26, of Abington, is charged with attempted murder for allegedly dragging a Walpole police officer with his car during the chase. A judge ordered him held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for next week. The judge also ordered LeBlanc to undergo a mental health evaluation.

According to court documents released Thursday, Leblanc told police he wanted them to kill him, and that he ran because he was "not made for jail."

He faces several other charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property.

"Given the high speeds and recklessness alleged in this chase, I have to compliment Walpole, Norwood, Dedham, Needham, Boston, State and all police involved in bringing this to a resolution without greater injury to police or the public," Norfolk District Attorney  Michael Morrissey said in a statement.

Outside court, LeBlanc's father called Wednesday's chase and his son's arrest "an unfortunate situation."

The chase began in Walpole when officers responded to a call about a suspicious person parked on a man-made dam behind the Walpole Country Club.

Morrissey's office said LeBlanc refused to give police his license and registration. Police said he sped off while Walpole Police officer Matt Crown's arm was in his window, dragging Crown about 100 yards.

Crown returned to his cruiser and joined the pursuit, and was eventually taken to Faulkner Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

LeBlanc was heard saying he didn't mean to hurt anybody as he was led into court Thursday.

He is due back in court Tuesday for the dangerousness hearing.

"I'm proud of what they did and I'm glad that we had the outcome we did," Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael said about officers' actions during the chase.
