75-Year-Old Man Stabbed In Roxbury

ROXBURY (CBS) -- A 75-year-old man was stabbed Tuesday evening in Roxbury after a man tried to rob him, according to police.

Boston Police said someone followed the man home around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after he played the lottery at a local store, and tried to rob him on Burrell Street.

Police said that, during a struggle, the victim hit the suspect with his cane. The two then fell against a parked car, and the car's alarm went off.  The elderly man was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, including a stab wound.

A neighbor told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens that the suspect was scared off by the car alarm. He said the man walks to the store to play the lottery daily, and was only half a block from his home when the attack happened.

"He went to the store, and obviously, probably someone saw him spending money, so they followed him home, waited for that opportunity, stabbed him," said the neighbor.

The elderly man, who has a number of medical issues in addition to the stab wound, is expected to recover.
