Boston Children's Hospital 'Overwhelmed' With Mail For Yarmouth Girl

BOSTON (CBS) -- Last week, Yarmouth Police asked the public to send cards to cheer up a young Yarmouth girl undergoing lengthy, life-saving spinal surgery at Boston Children's Hospital.

On Tuesday, the department had to ask supporters to send mail for Leah Archambault directly to their headquarters--because the mailroom at Children's Hospital was "overwhelmed" with letters and items for her.

"We have just received word that the mail and special items for Junior Officer Leah has actually overwhelmed the mail room at Boston Children's Hospital!" read a post on the department's Facebook page Tuesday. "What an amazing show of love and support from all over the world!"

Yarmouth Police asked for letters for Archambault, who they described as "one of our most special young citizens and a future Yarmouth police officer," last Friday. They said she needed the surgery to stay alive. It was her 10th spinal surgery in the last three years, and her most involved to date.

On Monday, they said she was recovering from her 12-hour surgery, but still in a lot of pain--but that she may soon be leaving the hospital and coming home.

"Thanks to all the Doctors and Nurses at Boson Children's Hospital, Junior Officer Leah is doing better and better each day and we hope to have her home here in Yarmouth by the end of the week," the department said on their Facebook page.

Letters for Leah can now be sent to:
