Recall: CVS Herbal Tea Could Contain Salmonella
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (CBS) – CVS is voluntarily recalling some cases of its herbal tea after learning it could be contaminated with salmonella.
The company says it was notified by a manufacturer about the problem with certain cases of Gold Emblem Abound Organic Spiced Herbal Tea.
"An ingredient produced by the manufacturer's raw material supplier tested positive for Salmonella in another company's product," CVS announced. "CVS Pharmacy's Gold Emblem product also contains this ingredient."
The recall affects 1.4-ounce cartons of the tea sold nationwide with a best by date of March 18, 2018 and UPC code 0 50428 541043.
CVS said 200 units of the recalled tea were sold before the recall, and there are no reported cases of illness yet.
Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea and vomiting, and is sometimes deadly in young children and elderly adults.
The recalled tea has been removed from store shelves. Anyone who bought it can return the tea to CVS for a refund.
