UPDATED: Xander Bogaerts To Play Thursday Against Rays After Early Exit With Quad Injury

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

UPDATE: Bogaerts is back in the Red Sox lineup for Thursday afternoon against the Rays.

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is optimistic that he will not miss any time and could play Thursday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays, less than 24 hours after exiting Wednesday night's 7-3 win with tightness in his quadriceps.

"If I feel the same way I feel right now [on Thursday], I'll probably play," Bogaerts said to reporters after the game.

Bogaerts left Wednesday night's game in the bottom of the fifth inning after scoring from first base on a double by David Ortiz. He appeared to tweak his quad rounding second base.

For now, Bogaerts is considered day-to-day, but manager John Farrell said he will be re-examined Thursday and the hope is that he will be available to play.
