NH Natives Severely Injured In Ecuador Earthquake

BOSTON (CBS) - On a beautiful day in New Hampshire Britni Corliss would much rather be thousands of miles south in the earthquake zone of Ecuador. Her parents are down there and were severely injured after their home collapsed in the quake.

Alan Corliss has a badly broken leg and dislocated hip. Cathy Corliss has a broken neck and multiple injuries.

"My mother when she was found, her head and her neck were pinned under a piece of the roof and the rest of her body was free," Britni says, "so she has a lot of damage."

Alan and Cathy moved to Ecuador from New Hampshire last August running a small seaside restaurant. Now, in a matter of seconds, everything has changed.

Britni still hasn't been able to speak with her mom and dad.

"I can't say I love you...and I can't say I'm here for you. I'm so proud of them for going down and being brave and following their dream because they've always taught us to follow our dream."

After surgery Cathy Corliss is now able to move her arms and legs but they will both need months of medical care. A GoFundMe page has been set up.

"Both my parents are having surgery, they're going to need extensive work done, my mother especially is going to have a really long recovery process," Britni says.

Britni's sister was with her parents in Ecuador. Fortunately she wasn't hurt, but now this family is facing the challenge of a lifetime.

"My heart goes out to everyone down there and everybody that's impacted in this tragedy," Britni says. "We're all in it as a team and we're all fighting to make it work."
