Keller @ Large: Unbelievable Strength, Profound Bond Between Bombing Survivors

BOSTON (CBS) -- What a great day for the Marathon yesterday.

Kudos to all involved, especially my colleagues at WBZ Radio and TV who do a terrific job broadcasting the event.

There were many highlights yesterday, but one will stay with me for a long time.

Long after the elite runners had finished, Steve Burton of WBZ-TV conducted an extraordinary interview with Patrick Downes, who ran the race three years after losing a leg in the bombings, and his wife Jessica Kensky, who has undergone multiple surgeries for the terrible injuries she suffered that day.

The couple held hands as Patrick stood beside Jessica's wheelchair.

Steve asked them how they support each other, and Jessica answered first: "He's still taking me to my pre-op appointments and waiting for me while I'm in the OR and picking me up from my hospital discharge and driving me and grocery shopping…he's still my main caretaker in addition to [being] my husband and my best friend."

Then it was his turn to answer: "We made a vow and it doesn't matter what obstacles come our way, we just stick together. I love her no matter what. I just stick with her because she sticking with me, and that's just what you do."

Parents, sit down with your kids when you get a chance and watch this video together.

These people were the innocent victims of a horrific crime that did terrible damage. But there isn't a trace of anger or self-pity in them. Instead, there's unbelievable strength, and a profound bond.

Because when you love someone, as Patrick Downes puts it, "that's just what you do."

Words to remember, live by, and respect.
