Coast Guard Suspends Search For Missing Mariners Off Maine Coast

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Coast Guard has suspended their search for the crew of a missing vessel that sent a distress signal Sunday night.

Someone aboard the Whiskey Rose sent a distress signal to the Coast Guard around 7:40 p.m. The man reported the vessel's name and that it was taking on water, but the transmission was broken before he could give them their location.

That the last the Coast Guard heard from the Whiskey Rose.

A cell phone tower was used to triangulate the approximate area the distress signal was sent from, leading the Coast Guard to an area near the Isle of Shoals.

Coast Guard officials said they had no reports of missing vessels or missing persons at this time. They said a search for the name Whiskey Rose came up with no results.

The Coast Guard Cutter Tampa and a rescue boat from the Portsmouth Harbor Coast Guard station took part in the search, along with air crews from the Coast Guard's Air Station Cape Cod.

Anyone with information about the Whiskey Rose or its crew is asked to contact the Coast Guard's Northern New England command center.
