Offshore Weekend Storm Brings Coastal Flood Threat

It's Friday! This week seemed to drag a bit didn't it? I mean we did start with a messy, snowy Monday…so it's probably welcome news for many of us to know that the storm we've been watching for the weekend is going to stay well to our south. More details on that in a second…

But first, our TGIF weather.  Today will feature intervals of sun and clouds with the risk of a passing shower from midday until the early evening.  It will be nothing like yesterday's soaking rain – but may be worth having the umbrella on standby. The wind will be a bit active too, gusting occasionally over 20 mph from the southwest later on. Highs will be pretty seasonable, running in the lower 50s.

Sunshine will greet us tomorrow morning to start the weekend, but don't expect it to stick around all day. Clouds will build, especially along the south coast on the northern fringe of a developing storm to our south. The moisture comes close…but will likely stay far enough offshore to keep us dry (aside from a rain/snow shower pre-dawn Sunday along the south coast and Cape Cod).  It is certainly something that still bears watching, so we'll keep you posted on any changes over the next 24-36 hours.

One impact we will see this weekend is a risk of coastal flooding. The onshore flow combined with astronomical high tides will result in pockets of minor coastal flooding and beach erosion in eastern MA during Saturday night's high tide cycle. A coastal flood watch has been issued.

Otherwise, our weekend temps will be a bit on the cool side, generally in the 40s to around 50. We'll come back into the 50s and stay there for next week, although we'll be dodging some April showers from time to time.  That includes at Fenway on Monday for the Sox home opener – although I'm not anticipating any rain delays…just a chance of a passing shower during the afternoon.

I'm psyched to be live at Fenway on Monday…so be sure to tune in to WBZ This Morning 4:30 to 7. Have a great weekend everyone!
