Boy Robbed Of Birthday Cash Gets Gift Thanks To Boston Police, Shoe Store

BOSTON (CBS) -- It was still a happy birthday for a Boston seventh grader who was robbed on his way to school recently, thanks to a local shoe store and police officers who went above and beyond the call of duty.

Police say 13-year-old Amir Taste was robbed of $100 in birthday cash a few weeks ago.

Amir told officers Skye Robinson and Sean Rooney what happened. When they found out he had planned to use the money to buy a new pair of sneakers, the officers decided to make Amir's birthday wish come true.

They reached out to Concepts shoe store in Harvard Square, where employees not only wanted to help, but they also offered to pay for the shoes.

"Once the officers told us why they were buying the sneakers, there was no way we were gonna take their money," worker Justin Kirkland-Smith said, according to police.

Officers surprised an overjoyed Amir with the new Nikes and a T-shirt from the store, and only asked that he write Concepts a thank you card.

"I'm so glad you guys donated. . . the shoes to me," Amir wrote. "I'm glad there are people in this world besides my teachers and parents who actually look out for me."

As for the officers, they said they put in the time and effort to secure the generous donation from Concepts because "it was the right thing to do."
