Tree Worker Dies After Falling From Bucket Truck In Leominster

LEOMINSTER (CBS) -- A 26-year-old tree service worker died after falling out of a bucket truck while cutting down a tree on Thursday afternoon in Leominster.

First responders were called to Flaggler Road shortly after 12 p.m. The worker, a man who lived outside of Leominster, police say, was doing work for a landscaping and tree service company.

The man was about 55 feet high in the bucket, cutting off the top of the tree when it struck the bucket, knocking him out of it.

Homeowner Dennis Owen says he called the company to cut down a large pine tree which had begun to crack over the weekend. Owen and his wife witnessed the man fall from the bucket.

"I've never seen anything like that before in my life. I hope I never do again," Owen said.

He was rushed to Leominster Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet identified the victim.

OSHA has been notified of the incident.
