Wednesday's Child: 13-Year-Old Kristopher

KRISTOPHER Wednesdays Child

Kristopher is a sweet and happy thirteen-year-old African American boy. Although he can not speak, Kristopher is able to express his needs in other ways. Kristopher loves his school where he gets to enjoy going in the pool, sensory motor groups and cooking! Kristopher has an Individual Educational Plan to support him during the school day.

Kristopher has a contagious laugh and he is described as playful and sweet. He enjoys having books read to him and listening to music. Kristopher has beautiful dark short curly hair. He is not able to walk and is legally blind. A recent gain Kristopher has had was he is now able to keep his eyes open for longer periods of time and brush his own teeth! Kristopher spends his days rolling around in his wheelchair and requires continued supervision. He has a G-tube for all of his feedings and medication.

If adopted in Massachusetts, the services Kristopher has in place would be able to be continued at no cost to the adoptive family through his health insurance. While it would be ideal to find a local family so his services would not change, Kristopher is able to be placed anywhere out of state.

Legally freed for adoption, Kristopher will need a family that is prepared for his medical needs. Although a two parent family would be preferred, if a single parent is interested that would also be explored. Kristopher would do well in a home with or without other children of any age!

Since its inception in 1981, Wednesday's Child has been a collaboration of the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), the Department of Children & Families and WBZ-TV/CBS Boston. Hosted by Jack Williams for the last 34 years, this weekly series has given a face and voice to the children who wait the longest for families. Wednesday's Child has helped find homes for hundreds of waiting children and continues to raise awareness about adoption from foster care.
