Student Stabbed By Another Student At West Roxbury Academy, Police Say
WEST ROXBURY (CBS) -- Police said a student was stabbed by another student at West Roxbury Academy Wednesday morning.
The call came in about a 17-year-old student stabbed by a 15-year-old student at the school on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury at 8:32 a.m. Wednesday.
The victim, a Roxbury resident, was stabbed three times and was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital for emergency surgery. The student is expected to recover.
The suspect, a Dorchester resident, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was held on $50,000 cash bail with orders to stay away from the victim and witnesses, stay away from the school, remain under house arrest, and wear a GPS monitor if he posts that amount. He was not identified.
Student Madison Austin told WBZ-TV's Chantee Lans the students were "fighting, then one pulled out a knife and jabbed him, somewhere on his body."
Boston Public Schools said the West Roxbury Educational Complex, which houses the West Roxbury Academy, was placed into safe mode around 8:30 a.m. following the stabbing. It remained in safe mode as police investigated, though classes continued.
Nicholas Christmas came to the school to pick up his daughter, a student there, after he heard of the stabbing. She said she witnessed the stabbing, and didn't feel safe.
"It scared me, so I came to pick up my daughter," said Christmas. "This is West Roxbury, I thought this area was good."
Boston Public Schools said counselors were being made available for any students and staff who would like to discuss the stabbing.
