Police: Newtown, Conn. Teacher Arrested For Having Gun At School

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — A teacher in Newtown, Connecticut, has been arrested and charged with having a gun at the town's middle school.

Newtown police say 46-year-old Jason Adams, of Newtown, was found with a concealed firearm on Wednesday morning.

A Newtown Middle School employee had called police to tell them that school security had detained a teacher who had been seen with a firearm.

Adams was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, which is illegal in Connecticut. Police say he has a valid pistol permit. A telephone message seeking comment has been left at his home.

A gunman shot and killed 20 students and six educators at nearby Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.

The Newtown school system says the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
