Haircuts Help Heart Patients At Boston Children's Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) – On Sunday, you can get a haircut and help some of the tiniest heart surgery patients in Boston.

Five year-old Molly from Haverhill was one of them. She was born with a heart defect and spent her first eight months at Boston Children's Hospital.

On Wednesday, stylists at Salon Mario Russo made her a "princess."

Molly had her first open-heart surgery when she was six weeks old and more surgeries after that. Now she's active, healthy and very happy now.

Her parents say she loved the day of beauty and she's living proof that Children's Hospital is a lifesaver

"To have a place that gives you a long-term opportunity to be a father to a beautiful little girl. It's the most wonderful thing in the world," said Jay Leary, Molly's dad.

"It's great! It makes her happy," said Molly's mother Kerry. "It makes us feel good to do something for the place that saved her life. It's great!"

Salon Mario Russo is one of 90 salons nationwide, most of them in Greater Boston, that are donating all their proceeds from haircuts on Sunday to Boston Children's Hospital.

In the past six years, the event called HAIRraising for Boston Children's Hospital, has raised more than $850,000. This year's event is expected to raise over $300,000.
