Revs, NYC FC Play To A Draw

NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Tierney's goal off a free kick in the 38th minute helped the short-handed Revolution play New York City FC to a 1-1 draw Saturday.

Thomas McNamara headed home the rebound of a volley by David Villa that ricocheted off the crossbar and New York City took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

But 28 minutes later, after Andoni Iraola was shown the yellow card, Tierney's free kick deflected off NYCFC's Steven Mendoza into the net to tie it.

New England's Gershon Koffie drew a straight red card for a tackle on McNamara in the 51st and the Revolution (0-1-3), despite being a man down the rest of the way, held on for the draw.

Bobby Shuttleworth had three saves for New England, including a diving stop of a shot by Villa in the opening minutes.

NYCFC (1-1-2), one of just two teams to go under .500 at home last season, is winless in its last four home matches — including three this year.
