Pittsfield Man Angry Taco Bell Was Closed Crashes While Speeding Away, Police Say

PITTSFIELD (CBS) – A man upset that a Pittsfield Taco Bell was closed for the night was knocked unconscious after he crashed his car while speeding away from the fast food restaurant.

Pittsfield Police were called to Hubbard Ave. just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, after a car crashed into a building that previously housed an ATM.

A Taco Bell employee told police that Derrick LaForest had pulled up to the drive-thru and began honking his horn when no one came to the window.

The employee said LaForest laid on his horn for at least two minutes. When the worker told LaForest that Taco Bell was closed, he allegedly slammed on the accelerator and drove away.

According to the employee, LaForest was going "at least 80 miles an hour" when he hit a curb, lost control of the car, jumped another curb and crashed into the ATM building.

Several Taco Bell employees ran over to help LaForest, who was unconscious.

Police say the employees dragged LaForest from the car and he became responsive a short time later. The car's airbag had deployed as a result of the crash.

Pittsfield Police arrested LaForest and charged him with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and vandalism.

LaFforest showed no signs of being intoxicated, police said.
